One Word Film!

 “Dearest gentle reader,” - Bridgerton

We were assigned quite the assignment to work in pairs… The activity consisted of creating a film, BUT it wasn’t just a “normal” film, it was a ONE-word film. While making the film, we had to brainstorm, storyboard, and finally film and edit! The story created had to be told in one to one minute and a half. Yet, there was ONE challenge in the creation of the film, we could NOT use ANY dialogue 😱

After this challenge (which seemed like a big one) it was possible. The word I was given was reminisce, which is remembering past events. As I mentioned before, multiple steps needed to be done, so first the brainstorming process took place; my partner and I worked together to come up with the story we wished to tell. We utilized the outline given to help us better to develop the story in the order of 15 shots.  Here is what the plan looked like:

After the brainstorming process and the story being approved, we proceeded to create the storyboard. The storyboard helped a lot in visualizing what was going to be done while filming since we pictured the movements, techniques, and shots that were going to be used. As the filming process was over, each of us started the post-production stage. I utilized Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the video together and come to a final film of 1 minute and 25 seconds.

Overall, the one-word film I created was done how I pictured during the pre-production time. The pacing and techniques were done well throughout the film, everything allowed the story to flow and not look like a montage. The dreamy effect implemented helped to convey the period of a flashback, specifically differentiating the flashback from reality as it is revealed with the match cut of the girl with different clothes. However, something I wish to improve next time during the filming time is to be sure of the small details, when entering the editing stage, I noticed one shot was done incorrectly as one of the subjects was not in the frame, and for later it wouldn’t have continuity.

This was the original shot, but I was not in the frame so for the rest of the film it wouldn’t have continuity:

Here is how I was able to fix it a bit, yet there is still a part of the chair that shows and I am not in it:

That would be something I would like to improve in the future, but overall I liked how it turned out. I will attach the link if interested in watching it.

Enjoy!
